Grazia Notes…

Grazia magazine came out with some fabulous pointers this week on “how to get spotted by The Satorialist”.  With ideas like “ignore him, play hard to get,” ”never look him in the eye” and ” don’t ever smile, put your shoulders back and cross your legs if wearing heels,”  I couldn’t help but have a chuckle.  I did like the notes on ”wear tweed, tartan or leather to catch his eye,” “invest in an It bag,” and ”wear muted tones and make sure you’re in a fabulous light.”  Very insightful!  The Grazia girls always are…I have to say, everyone really took a step up with some adorable outfits being sported around the OPT.  I was visualizing many an inspiring photograph being published by the marvellous Scott Schuman.

A star-studded audience packed the OPT on Tuesday night for the much awaited Coca-Cola Little Black Dress Show at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.  Australia’s top fashion designers Sass & Bide, Willow, Alice McCall, Romance Was Born, Alex Perry, Kirilly Johnston, Marnie Skillings, Kate Sylvester, Alpha 60 and Missoni re-created the LDB drawing inspiration from the ever-curvacious CC bottle!  My favourite dress?  The Marnie Skillings belted LBD with tulle overlay, magnificent.

The lines were fluid at Therese Rawsthorne with modern- feminine silhouettes in nude, peach, white and cornflower blue.  Relaxed shirting and silk frill dresses, were teamed back with long-line taylored jackets, skirts and pants in magical natural washed fibres.  A stretch mesh component drew an edge to the collection refining Rawsthorne’s signature style.

Scott Schuman, the man behind one of the most influential fashion blogs in the world, has arrived in Melbourne and will spend the week in Sydney for Rosemount Australian Fashion Week (shots from Chapel Street have just been posted!) “The Satorialist” is a street-style phenomenon, started “simply to share photos of people that I saw on the streets of New York that I thought looked great.”  Schuman’s magical images, capture people showcasing their own unique style – on the streets of the world’s most beautiful cities.  Over the next week, do not…I repeat, do not leave your home without looking divine…he could be just around the corner!

Rosemount Australian Fashion Week is fast approaching (27th April -1st May) and I’m getting excited about the buzz it brings to Sydney.  Apart from the fact our wonderful Australian designers will be showcasing their Spring Summer 09/10 collections, all the buyers come to town to see the shows and buy up big against a magnificent backdrop of Sydney Harbour.  For moi, apart from squeezing in a couple of shows at the Passenger Terminal, doing some buying for fifiluxe.com and and making the odd appearance at a very cool bar/restaurant dressed in my best – the majority of my week will be spent stuck in our Sydney showroom with Lulu, showing 8 collections to buyers abroad.  It’s an intense week but we love it and will get through with the help of copious amounts coffee….and of course the the inspiration a new season of fashion brings.   Most excited about showing: Paul & Joe Sister…can’t wait!

The statement shoes of the season, are the Louis Vuitton “Spicy Sandles” designed by none other than Marc Jacobs.  Ornate, rich embellishments of python leather, feathers, fringing, gold rivets, sequins, beads and stones  adorn these masterful, tribal inspired stilettos.  At 4.5 inches, such bejewelled creations will be the focal point of your outfit working beautifully with super sleek skinnies or leggings and teamed with a relaxed blazer.  The “Spicy Sandle” is without doubt, the “it” shoe of the season making its debut on fashion savvy celebrities such as Alexa Chung, Chloe Sevigny and Heidi Klum.  Available at Louis Vuitton for a cool $3,740…eeek!

The “gaga-esque” Nicole Richie for Black Book Magazine looks every inch the femme fatale.   Rocking out this sharp shooting spread in Bijules Nail Rings, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu and House of Harlow Pave Thick Antique Stack Rings for the April 09′ edition.  Heavy on the hardwear and one hot, hot mama.  Love Nicole this way.

Vanessa Hudgens always gets it right…I am pleasantly surprised everytime I see her out and about looking cute as pie. (I’m still researching her stylist!) Completely gorgeous outfit really…cropped bronze zip jacket, flowing white top, patent cream flats and JJ Winters suede zip bag.  An avid fan of J Brand, Vanessa wears them constantly and I’m not surprised considering they fit her like a glove.

Lather Thy Legs…

Posted by Fifiluxe on April 4th, 2009

A definitive trend this season, consists of a sophisticated strut and extravagantly lathered legs. From skin-tight, thigh-high boots, to wet-look cut out leggings and plastic pants, to crystal embellished tights. Anything you can lather your legs with will sufficiently suffice. If you want this look, I would choose a highly textured pair of leather boots, or the most patterned pair of tights I could find and imitate a model on the ready-to-wear runway. Confidence required.
